Micron DDR5: The memory technology for next-generation Intel server platforms

Micron DDR5 in a dual socket server using Intel® Xeon® Platinum 8490H-60C processor with Intel® AMX achieves 7x3 gain for image classification used in computer vision when compared with DDR4 and 3rd Gen Intel® Xeon® Platinum 8380 processor. The Micron DDR5 and 4th Gen Intel Xeon server is capable of annotating and labeling over 14,000 samples inferenced per second.

Benchmarks were performed by Micron’s Data Center Workload Engineering (DCWE) team in collaboration with Intel. DDR4 and DDR5 systems populated with 64GB RDIMMs in a one DIMM per channel (1DPC) configuration for a total of 1TB. Both systems were configured using the same software stack Alma Linux 9 (Kernel 5.14).
